PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Our flagship summer program provides early-career composers the opportunity to compose & premiere a new work, to develop their craft, and to take critical steps in their creative and career development--all under the guidance and mentorship of our world-class festival faculty.
What sets INMF apart is our commitment to preparing composers for both the creative and practical realities of a career in the arts. In addition to the premiere and documentation of their new work, composers participate in private lessons with composition faculty, workshops with performance faculty, as well as Masterclasses, Conducting Workshops, and our innovative Evening Lecture Series focusing on career development topics.
The Summer Festival is an intensive hybrid program which includes both online and then in-person events:
ONLINE | July 1 - 10, 2024
Online lessons, workshops, and talks to support composers as they complete their new work.
LOS ANGELES, CA | July 30 - August 3, 2024
In-person rehearsals, conducting workshop, masterclasses, concert, and other events, hosted at the prestigious Colburn School Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, California.

BRANDON J. ROLLE
Artistic Director
A Los Angeles-based composer and conductor, Dr. Rolle's interdisciplinary
approach to composition incorporates psychoacoustics, computer programming, and electronic techniques.
ROBERT DEMAINE
Guest Artist, Cello
Principal Cello of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Demaine is an incredibly accomplished musician and advocate of new music.
DIANA WADE
Performance Faculty, Viola
Violist and co-founder of new-music duo Spacepants, Wade is a versatile musician with an incredible range of experience from the studio to experimental performance art.
VLAD VIZIREANU
Executive Director
Maestro Vizireanu is an active conductor who is passionate about bringing new music and living composers to his audiences through creative programming.
MARI KIMURA
Guest Artist, Composition
Composer, Performer, Improviser, and Inventor Mari Kimura is truly a one-of a-kind musician, trailblazing an exciting path in performative technology.
ASHLEY WALTERS
Performance Faculty, Cello
Walters performs some of the most demanding and virtuosic new repertoire for cello, including works written through her collaboration with the composer.
JOEL FEIGIN
Composition Faculty
Feigin's brilliant music combines a deep sense of tradition inspired by his studies with Nadia Boulanger and Roger Sessions, with an ambitious and curious musical imagination.
ARON KALLAY
Performance Faculty, Piano
Grammy-nominated pianist Aron Kallay is a virtuosic and versatile musician, whose experience includes performing intermedia, microtonal and electroacoustic music.
BRIGHTWORK
Resident Ensemble
Consisting of world-class musicians, Brightwork is a flexible and fearless ensemble championing the works of today's best living composers.
JEFFREY HOLMES
Composition Faculty
Composer of post-spectral, teleological music incorporating elements of mysticism and lyrical expression. Holmes' music has been described as “Music of raw power and vision" by Fanfare Magazine.
ERIC BYERS
Performance Faculty, Cello
Praised as “ideally eloquent” by the Los Angeles Times, cellist Eric Byers captivates audiences as a soloist, chamber musician, and composer, with repertoire spanning J.S. Bach to today’s most innovative composers including Esa-Pekka Salonen, Thomas Adès, Andrew Norman, Caroline Shaw, and Peter Eötvös.
AMBROISE AUBRUN
Performance Faculty, Violin
With an international career as a soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician, Dr. Aubrun brings exciting and intelligent approach to new music.
ERIN MCKIBBEN
Performance Faculty, Flute
Principal flute for L.A.'s experimental classical ensemble, Wild Up, Grammy-nominated McKibben has extensive experience in new music and working with living composers.

Composer-Performer Faculty
Solo and chamber musician Andrew Tholl is a performer-composer with a breadth of experience spanning studio, classical, and experimental work.
VERA IVANOVA
Composition Faculty
Composer and faculty at Chapman University and the Colburn School, Ivanova's compositions have been performed worldwide and received many national and international awards.

Career Development Coach
Megan Ihnen (she/her) is a mezzo-soprano devoted to the commissioning, performance, & proliferation of new music. She's also passionate about audience development, music entrepreneurship, and creative placemaking.

I attend lots of festivals - I even did so during lockdown - and INMF2020 really stood out. I felt that the faculty of composers and performers were exceptionally generous with their time and knowledge. More than that, however, I felt that they had a clear and current focus on the world of music making, gave honest answers to difficult questions, and actually offered me practical, usable advice on how to further my career. I came away from every session feeling energised and motivated. I would strongly recommend this festival.
